Things I Still Love

Why yes, that is the same Guy Degrenne teapot as from my November 2013 post—this time on my table in Lausanne, Switzerland. May 8, 2019.

For a little over a year years ago (in 2013 and 2014, to be exact), I had a monthly feature on this blog in which I highlighted the stuff (and services and places) that I really enjoyed that month.

When reviving this site, I encountered entries from the series a few times. It interested me to see which items I still own—and which I still would call “loves.”

As we all stare down gift-giving season, I figured I’d share with you which of the loved things I still love, five and six years later.

Daily-Use Loves

  • The brown Coach messenger bag from the January 2014 write-up has even heavier use than it did at the time; it’s handy to have a larger bag when you walk and take public transportation everywhere (as I now do).

  • I bought boxes of Pentel’s EnerGel pens to bring to Switzerland, just in case they didn’t have them here. (They do.)

  • In the warmer months, I live in my Mephisto sandals from the May 2014 article.

  • Every day—and sometimes more than once per day, in all honesty—I use my Guy Degrenne teapot, which I mentioned in my November 2013 post. In fact, I hereby state that I will always use a Guy Degrenne teapot, the best-ever teapot.

  • Aveeno sunscreen is still my go-to sunscreen from head to toes—as mentioned my August 2013 routine.

  • Even more than in March 2014, now that I’ve moved to Switzerland, Skype has become a valued service. I have a Skype number so people can call me directly from the United States and I regularly schedule Skype videoconferences with friends and with Stakes participants.

Weekly-Use Loves

  • If working an hour or two away from the office—in a train or a plane or a coffee shop, say—I use my Microsoft Surface. Sure, I have the newer version of the one featured in November 2013, and I love it even more than the first edition.

  • The Roots of Fight shirts and hoodie I mentioned in my February 2014 post still regularly get worn around the house. So. Soft.

  • At some point, if not several points, in any given week, I will wear an item of Eileen Fisher clothing. Still a favorite, even long after my February 2014 write-up.

  • When I want to take my laptop to work on the couch or on the terrace, I use the exact same Levenger lap desk I featured in March 2014.

  • Some mornings (or afternoons), just as in March 2014, only matcha will do. So beautiful! So vibrant! So energizing!

  • I still go to my Under Armour tops and sports bras for almost all workouts, long after August 2013.

  • Though I have a desktop printer that does scanning, Office Lens still makes “scanning” a lot easier. And the app has improved since April 2014 (as you’d imagine).

Monthly-Use Loves

  • The black Chucks in the photo from the January 2014 post? I still own and use exactly that same pair. And yes, this means I probably need a new pair.

  • I don’t do book-based research reading as often as I once did, yet when I want to mark a page in a book for later reference, I still reach for my Levenger Page Nibs. (Yes, the same exact case of them I had in April 2014!)

  • When I travel, I travel with the Tumi canvas briefcase I showcased in September 2013, which holds my essential office-away-from-the-office needs. Tumi briefcases from all their lines still check all the boxes.

  • And for suitcase organization, I still use the eBags packing cubes I featured in November 2013 for every trip.

Important to note: I haven’t received any sort of payment or promotion for these items—and never did. All these things truly and simply just make me happy. Maybe they’ll make you happy. (Which would make even happier.)

And if any of these items turned into the perfect gift for you, help me keep this site ad-free and hat-tip me a coffee.

What stuff have you loved for a very long time?
