Creative and Cool Stuff on the Web: Issue Three

This effort stems from my nostalgia for the good ol’ days of the Internet, when it opened for the first time to average folks and people started to populate corners with blogs and other types of creative projects unfettered from purely business interests or the demands of social media. (For my article on how search engines and social media have reshaped the web, click here.)

Without further explanation, I share my bulleted list of creative and cool stuff discovered on the web this month:

  • The Nostalgia Machine brings to life top music from a given year; plug in a year from your past and revisit old favorites and completely forgotten tunes.

  • You’ll find this site transporting as well: Pick a city via the Drive & Listen menu and get a driving tour while listening to the local radio live. You can even pick a driving speed and choose whether to turn on or off the road noise.

  • I adore the intent and execution of Love Letters. Pick a city and look at a photographic slideshow of its streets and sights accompanied by the area’s ambient sounds. Each presentation presents a petite love letter to the city.

Have you found anything fun on the web this month (that didn’t exist on social media alone)? I need suggestions for the month ahead! Send them my way via my contact form.
