Graffiti in Lausanne and Amsterdam, 2019 Edition
Perhaps because my brain could immediately process its meaning—especially in the midst of all the foreign languages around me—the first graffiti to catch my eye in Europe this summer came in clearly written English on a construction site in Amsterdam.
As I walked around Amsterdam, I saw other instances of the same handwriting, all with different messages—and all on construction sites. (Very considerate of the graffiti artist, I must say.)
And so I started to pay attention. I saw other script-only graffiti in Lausanne (albeit in French). And then I saw other, highly artistic—and more traditional—graffiti. And I even caught two grafitti artists in action, drawing in black charcoal on a wood frame around a tree.
