Month-in-Review Highlights: May 2023

Me taking the route through the Lausanne Arboretum on my way back from a Sunday yoga session. May 28, 2023.

I postmortem each month shortly after it ends. Previously, I used these posts to hold myself accountable on progress toward my annual goals. Starting in January 2023, I broadened these posts to address more generally my observations and experiences for the month. (To read previous months’ reviews, click here.)

The end of May finally brought some warmer and sunnier weather to my part of Switzerland, though we seem to have transitioned directly from winter to summer, skipping spring entirely.

Whatever the case, I’ll take the warmth and the sun after the months of dark and cold. Dark and cold puts me in hibernation mode, and I have things to do.

My goals for the year included me participating in a yoga event of some kind. I’ve actually scheduled and planned two: a weekend intensive and a week-long retreat. As of the end of May, I’ve now attended one of them. (I have a third weekend I’m eyeing in the fall, as well.)

I had only the vaguest notion of what to expect for the May weekend intensive, though everyone else attending knew exactly what would happen and when. Everyone but me having yoga-teaching certification and teaching or having taught yoga had to have helped them.

Did I like it? I really did. However, the theme of the intensive surprised me. I got a lot out it. However, given some of the other things I have going on in this moment, a different theme would have suited the me of May 2023 better than this one did.

Still, I am very glad I went and very glad that I have a different flavor of yoga retreat scheduled in June. (And yes, I double checked: The retreat will cover several different themes over the course of the week.)

Otherwise, my progress continues apace on other goal fronts as well—though I am very glad we haven’t yet hit the midyear mark. I haven’t hit the midpoint of my 2023 plan, after all.

And as a little bonus, so you can hear the singing frogs and see the pond behind me in the photo above, a quick video:
