My Favorite Podcasts for Readers, Writers, and Book Lovers

Anyone who reads this blog knows I’m a huge book nerd who also writes fiction. It’s a bonus for me that a lot of this blog’s readers are fellow book lovers!

Whether or not you write, if you love reading, you’ll love these podcasts.

I compiled an earlier version of this list for a writing friend a while back and astonished myself with the sheer number of book- and writing- and publishing-focused podcasts I consume. (And I’m ever seeking and trying out more.)

Though all these podcasts will appeal to writers, even some of the more writer-focused podcasts will appeal to die-hard book fans. Take a browse, try a few, and enjoy!

Interviews with Authors for Writers and Book People

Although segments of these podcasts may focus the conversation on topics of greatest interest to other writers, I think my fellow book nerds—writers and nonwriters alike—will love the depth of discussion with authors about their work and their careers.

These podcasts go far deeper than most of the more mainstream podcasts you’ll find.

Book Recommendations and Reviews

The podcasts that interviewing authors often skip over some of the more popular and upmarket fiction options, including a lot of genre fiction. I’ve had fun tuning in to podcasts with people talking about the books they’ve read and that they’re excited to read across all categories:

Genre-Focused

Here you’ll see my genre biases!

I have no doubt that a person who loves romance, fantasy, science fiction, and beyond will find podcasts dedicated to interviewing authors in these categories and talking about aspects related to these segments.

But I confess that when I read genre fiction—novels that go beyond the general literary and commercial fiction buckets—I trend more toward horror and thriller and light speculative novels.

A side note: Even if you don’t think you like these genres, book nerds of all types will enjoy hearing these authors talk about the whys and wherefores of their craft.

The Writing Craft

Although the previous two groupings will apply to readers as well as writers, these podcasts will appeal more directly to my fellow fiction-writing friends.

The Book Business

Some writers are still learning the craft—far from publication—or plan to never publish and instead write for fun. For writers who are closer to publication, are actively seeking publication, or are published, these podcasts are for you.

What Should I Add?

I know I’ve missed some!

Some I didn’t include because I’ve listened to them and didn’t find them as compelling or useful as the ones I’ve listed. Though I know there must be many that I just don’t know about.

If you don’t see one of your favorite podcasts for writers and book lovers on this list, I want to hear about it!
