Danger without Risk
No daredevil, me. Bungee jumping, skydiving, climbing mountains or even faux rock walls where someone supposedly “belays” me from hitting the ground—I’ll pass.
And I play by the straight and narrow, too. I’ve never had interest in trouble of any kind.
Ever.
Proof:
The worst thing I ever did as a kid? Sneak out of the house in the night to sit in my back yard with my neighbor, Jessica. Oh—we did make a stop at the church playground catty-corner to home. (We could have chatted during daylight hours just as well.)
But that card stack I have asks an interesting question:
If you could do something once with no risk, what would you do?
Now, I take the “no risk” part literally. In my assumption, no one gets hurt physically or emotionally or financially or in any other way—including me. In my framework for this question, anything I choose to do happens entirely without positive or negative consequences for anyone.
So what would I choose?
Brace yourself:
I’d do a “Miami Vice”-style crazy drug heist, where I speed with my posse up to a dark warehouse on a dock or pier somewhere out in the Atlantic Ocean, hold up a narcotics gang loading up their stash, and take the entire lot, zipping away in the dark to make a fortune from a competing drug cartel.
(Of course, given that this game has no consequences, I wouldn’t make any real money in the transaction.)
Why?
Because it’s nothing like anything I ever would do or ever will do (even if the opportunity oddly presented). Other than a few traffic tickets, my record is squeaky clean. I like it that way. Heck, I haven’t even tried any sort of illegal drug—even the “minor” stuff like marijuana. Zero interest. Heck, I don’t even drink.
Yet if there’s no risk—to anyone—why not try something completely out of character?
How would you answer the deck’s query?
